Answering Hair Colorists' Questions...
Hair Color Expert, Sharon Sovinski, responds to some of the Hair Color questions most commonly asked by Licensed Cosmetologists, Hair Colorists, Stylists and Salon Owners. |
|
STYLIST: HOW DID YOU BECOME A HAIR COLOR EDUCATOR?
|
SHARON SOVINSKI:
The evolution from Hair Colorist to Hair Color Educator occurred as naturally as the sun rises and sets. Throughout the years I have been coloring hair my greatest joy has come from helping my Clients live happier lives. Helping others is a core part of my very existence and is the reason I have been able to work almost every day for the last 10 years and still be very happy.
After receiving National Recognition in leading Fashion Magazines as a Master Colorist I had only one thought in mind - to SHARE what I was doing with other Hair Colorists so that they, too, could enjoy the same success and happiness in their own Hair Coloring Careers.
And, as simple as that... I shared, thus becoming an Educator.

About Sharon Sovinski

|
STYLIST: WHAT WAS THE FIRST STEP YOU TOOK IN EDUCATING COLORISTS?
 |
|
SHARON SOVINSKI:
Since landing in ELLE Magazine in 2001, I took the time to thoroughly evaluate everything that I was doing that was correct - all so that I could share it with other Stylists, Colorists and Salon Owners.
The first educational product I made available to others is the My Bella Color "Panels & Chunks" instructional video on HOW they could get the same multi-color hair color results that gained me National Recognition. I had my original multi-color hair color foiling technique professional filmed, edited and DVD formatted in both Spanish and English so that others could learn that technique.
In order to sell the "Panels & Chunks" DVD I had the original My Bella Color website made. The DVD was first placed for sale in 2003, and remains a HOT new educational item to this day because the technique I developed is not a trend, but is, itself, a foiling application Art Form that is timeless.
Once learned, the foiling technique can be altered to create any combination of multiple hair color results. |

|
|
STYLIST: DO YOU SERIOUSLY SHARE YOUR HAIR COLOR TRADE SECRETS?
|
SHARON SOVINSKI:
The most "unbelievable" aspect of my educational products it that THEY are even THERE to be purchased!
If I didn't share my trade secrets then HOW will this wonderful Art of Coloring Hair be passed along? What if the great Master Painters did NOT share their knowledge and skills? What if no one ever wrote about Michelangelo? Where would the world of Art be today without the Masters paving the path of the Knowledge of Art, Drawing, Painting and Sculpting?
I know it is hard to believe that I am openly making available to others my trade secrets, hair color formulas and knowledge. But, to me, it is natural to want to share my knowledge because I want to see the true Art of Coloring Hair continue! And, I want others who love their art to be able to have success so that they can continue to create their art and lead a happier and more successful life.
My greatest joy does not come from "keeping" all I know to myself - it comes from sharing it with others! I guess it's rare that a Celebrity Hair Colorist shares her knowledge, but, to me, it is the only choice I personally have. |

The evolution of My Bella Color!

|
STYLIST: WHAT EDUCATIONAL PRODUCTS HAVE YOU CREATED?
 |
|
SHARON SOVINSKI:
After having the "Panels & Chunks" DVD mass produced, I immediately began to write down everything that I was doing so that other Licensed Cosmetologists, Hair Stylists, Hair Colorist and Salon Owners could gain the same knowledge of Color, Hair Color, Hair Coloring, Hair Color Formulating and Mixing, and Hair Color application techniques!
What I offer are THE KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS that have stood up to the test of time and and have proven to be successful!
Every single aspect of my success is available to others who want to achieve similar success in their own Hair Coloring Careers. |

|
|
STYLIST: HOW CAN OTHERS HAVE THE SAME SUCCESS IN THEIR CAREERS?
|
SHARON SOVINSKI:
The hardest thing for someone to do is to STEP into a successful pair of shoes and walk! People want to do everything else, rather than just DO what is already laid out for them.
I know this because I tried to do OTHER steps, OTHER than those that worked, and that's how I KNOW that these steps WORK!
When I say it is simple, it is simple, only because I have boiled it down to the precious gems of KNOWLEDGE that have already been proven successful.
It is really THAT simple.
That is what I offer here - a genuine education based on actual results.

About My Bella Color online Hair Color Education

|
STYLIST: IS IT TRUE THAT YOU OFFER YOUR EXPERT HAIR COLOR ADVICE?
 |
|
SHARON SOVINSKI:
Yes. That is true. I do offer my expert Hair Coloring advice to Licensed Cosmetologists through the My Bella Color Member's-Only Hair Colorist Forum.
While I have the products available on this site, I know there are also times that another Professional may need some direct help in figuring out how to do something, fix something, understand something, etc.
I added the Hair Colorist Forum so that there is LIVE interaction that is available in the event someone needs expert advice to solve a hair coloring issue that needs an expert to help resolve. |

|
|
STYLIST: DO YOU ALSO EDUCATE HAIR COLOR CLIENTS TOO?
|
SHARON SOVINSKI:
Yes, this is also true. I do educate the Hair Color CLIENTS ON Hair Coloring.
The reason I chose to do this is because I have personally observed that the EDUCATED Hair Color Client is MUCH easier to work with. And, once the Client is educated, he or she is also more responsible for the end hair coloring results chosen.
This not only results in a happier Hair Color Client, but is less trouble for the Hair Colorist. It has been statistically proven that educated Hair Color Clients do not "appear" back to the hair chair stating they are not happy with their results. Therefore, time and money is saved from not having to do "corrections" because the Client did not understand what she was asking for. An educated Hair Color Client is, to me, the most ideal Client.
What I offer on the complete, Internet Hair Coloring Concept that I developed, is exactly ALL that has been proven successful. And, that includes educating the Hair Color Client.
If I can help educate a Hair Color Client and send THAT Client to the Hair Colorist Locator, then that only helps make the work of the Hair Colorist that much better!
It's a WIN-WIN situation! |
|
 |
Hair Color Client education

|
STYLIST: DID YOU SAY "SEND" CLIENTS TO COLORISTS?
 |
|
SHARON SOVINSKI:
Once again, the complete sphere of all I have been doing in my own Hair Coloring Career is available to the My Bella Color Hair Colorist Member.
It is my intention to not only educate the Hair Color Client, but to forward the potential new Clients to the Hair Colorist Locator search engine so that they can locate a Hair Colorist in their area that is knowledgeable in Coloring Hair.
It's a full circle, WIN-WIN situation.
Once again, it's the SUCCESSFUL pair or shoes the My Bella Color Members are being offered through the My Bella Color Hair Colorist Membership... just SLIP them ON and WALK on the path that is set before you here on the My Bella Color, Hair Color Consultant and Hair Colorist Locator sites!
It's ALL here - for YOU - the Hair Colorist! |
Visit www.HairColoristLocator.com Search Engine

|
|
STYLIST: ARE THERE ANY OTHER ASPECT OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING?
|
SHARON SOVINSKI:
Yes, I am always working on creating MORE educational products! I have a book in the making, and some other larger projects that will soon be underway.
Coinciding with additional educational product releases, Sales Reps throughout the United States will be contacting Colorists to participate in the My Bella Color Hair Colorist Membership program.
Marketing campaigns for the HairColoristLocator will be launched once the Membership base is in place.
And, all the while, the success of the original My Bella Color website is being maintained so that the complete Hair Coloring Internet Concept that I have created can continue to grow as the original My Bella Color site has grown.
That is why the original Questions and Answers about the "Panels & Chunks" DVD are placed below this question.
There's no mistaking the care and attention that has been given to create this complete, Internet Hair Coloring Concept!

|
STYLIST: WHY DO YOU CALL IT PANELS &
CHUNKS?
 |
|
SHARON SOVINSKI:
From the first time I stepped away from doing traditional foil weaving techniques it was very clear to me (and the Salon Manager at the Beverly Hills Salon I was working in at the time), that my foil placements were NOT traditional.
With every new Hair Color Client I was creating custom foil placements!
For example: When deciding to create a look of Extreme Color
Contrast the strands of hair could no longer be taken
into a fine foil weave. Nor could the foils be placed one on top of the other in a row. Nor could there be "columns" of foils coming up from the nape, crown, center part, and sides. This meant that the rules of
foiling had to be broken if I wanted to create multi-color hair color results that actually MOVED within the shape/flow of the hair style.
In order to create these custom, multi-color looks, I designed an
original foiling technique that enabled me to alter the color placement needed to achieve that desired end result. My original technique enabled me to take much larger
sections, vertical sections, triangular sections, angled sections, slanted sections, etc., - ALL while still controlling the
multi-color end results!
And, leaving NO natural root!
After I created this foiling technique and continued to alter it for every single Hair Color Client whose hair I colored, I witnessed my Hair Color Clientele rapidly expand!
So, I had to name it something. When I made the DVD I dubbed it "Panels & Chunks", because it architecturally made sense. |

|
|
STYLIST: I KNOW YOU OWN A SUCCESSFUL SALON,
SO WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO MAKE THE PANELS &
CHUNKS VIDEO?
|
SHARON SOVINSKI:
I wanted to share my success with
other Stylists because I wanted others to have the
same success that I have had as a Hair
Colorist.
I have stood behind the hair chair since
1985 and have literally colored thousands of heads
of hair. But, it wasn't until I created an
original multi-color foiling technique that my Hair Color
Clientele expanded almost over
night.
While other successful Hair
Colorists may hold their secret to their success I
wanted to share mine. So, I decided to document my
successful actions by creating the "Panels & Chunks" bilingual DVD.
Years of Professional Hair Coloring and Hair Color Studio/Salon Owning experience have gone into making the My Bella Color online Hair Coloring education and Hair Coloring career expansion possible!
The DVD is only the first step on the journey of a Licensed Cosmetologist increasing his/her Hair Coloring Skills, results and Color Clientele. |

|
STYLIST: WHAT MAKES YOUR TECHNIQUE SO
DIFFERENT THAN OTHERS?
 |
|
SHARON SOVINSKI:
I was basically "kicked out" of a
Beverly Hills Salon in 1996 because what I was
doing with hair coloring was so completely
different than the "norm" that I was told that I
did not "belong" there. I was breaking the rules
of foiling and my foiling work "looked" different
when the foils are in the hair. Perhaps I was
drawing too much attention away from other leading
Hair Stylists. But, whatever the reason, I was
told, "Work like this does not belong here." So, I
left and opened by own salon.
It took knowing traditional foiling
techniques extremely well before I could bend and
break the foiling rules. And once I broke the
rules my creativity as a Hair Colorist knew no
boundaries.
So, is it different? You bet - it's
absolutely unique. And now I can honestly say that
sticking to my gut instincts and certainty in the
multi-colored looks I was creating on my Hair Color Clients has paid off
tremendously.
Over the years I have witnessed my
work spread across the USA and world. It gives me
great pleasure to see my signature hair coloring
work appear now in fashion magazines, movies, and
is more widely accepted now. I feel I have a lot
to do with that.
And now, I share my color
knowledge with other Stylists through the
DVD, the educational Products available on the My Bella Color website, and the in-Studio educational seminars that I give at the My Bella
Color Studio.
There's no stopping me! If a fellow
Hair Stylist wants to know, I'm definitely there
to share! |

|
|
STYLIST: YOU CHANGED THE TRADITIONAL
FOILING APPLICATION TO ACHIEVE WHAT?
|
SHARON SOVINSKI:
Now that's a great
question!
I could not achieve the desired result of
extreme color contrast with very bold sections if
I stuck to the traditional way of foiling. So, to
achieve the creative results I wanted my Hair
Color Clients to have I HAD to figure out another
way to foil. And I did!
Not only do Celebrity
Musicians, Actors, Actresses wear my work, but so do many
behind-the-scenes Hollywood Film
Professionals.
And - my multiple colored hair
coloring foil work results ARE what got me rated as one of the "Top Ten Master Colorists" in Elle Magazine, "Top
Trendsetters" in W Magazine, invited to the Hair
Show in Florence Italy, and Puerto Rico, opened
the door to worldwide education, and
the in-Studio My Bella Color educational intensive
hair color seminars!
Something this good creates
more good. I offer others to become part of
this exciting expansion! |
|
 |

|
STYLIST: HOW PREDICTABLE ARE YOUR
RESULTS?
 |
|
SHARON SOVINSKI:
That's a question my Father asked
me some years ago. But his question was this one,
"So, honey..., Do you make any hair color mistakes
these days when you color hair?"
And I laughed, and then thought about it.
My response was, "No, not only do I achieve
perfect results one hundred percent of the time,
but my new Hair Color Clients MUST each say to me when I have
finished coloring their hair, 'This is how I have
always wanted my hair to be, but no one has ever
been able to do it!' and that is my end result!
So, no, I don't make mistakes anymore."
That was when I realized that I had
truly mastered the Art of coloring hair.
These
days, I'm known as a Color Correction Specialist.
The amount of hair color work I correct astonishes
me. It's my latest passion. I call it the "Black
Out" phase. It is common now for me to remove
black hair pigment and achieve the desired end
result within hours. It's definitely fun now.
Coloring hair behind the hair chair is not "work"
to me. It's play time because it's easy now. I
love what I do. And because I love coloring hair,
I want other Stylists to feel the same way about
their own hair color work. That's the best gift I
can give to other Hair Stylists. If they can learn
to color hair well, making no mistakes, then they
will have launched a Hair Coloring Career and will
be happier doing it. It's all about being happy.
And being happy as a Hair Colorist means NO more
hair color mistakes.
And, to this day, if I do not hear the new
Hair Color Client say 'This is how I have always wanted my
hair to be, but no one has ever been able to do
it!' (on her own determinism) then I know I have
NOT nailed it. These days, it's almost
entertaining to know this and listen to my new
Client's response, one for one, time and time
again... these words appear and so does a larger
smile on my face. |

|
|
STYLIST: WHY EDUCATE OTHER
STYLISTS?
|
SHARON SOVINSKI:
I love what I do and I want other
Hair Stylists and Colorists to have the same hair color knowledge and
control over their own Hair Color work so they too
can feel the same way about their Hair Coloring
Career.
Once I gained the recognition as one of the
"Top Ten Masters of Makeovers" in Elle Magazine and "Top
Trendsetters" by W Magazine, I knew it was
time to share my hair coloring knowledge and
success with other Professional Hair Colorists.
I've nailed this down,
and now is time to advance my own career into
helping others with their
Hair Coloring Careers.
I am now able to do this through the complete online Hair Coloring Internet marketing concept I have created. |
|
|

|
STYLIST: HOW DID YOU LAND IN ELLE
MAGAZINE?
 |
|
SHARON SOVINSKI:
When I worked in a Hair Salon in
Beverly Hills the way in which I was customizing my hair color foiling work did not gain me much "popularity" amongst the other Stylists or the Salon Manager.
Although my Hair Color Clients were ecstatic, I had broken "out of the box", and so, I left Beverly Hills and opened
my own Hair Salon so I could do the type of Hair
Color work I loved to do.
As soon as I made the move, my Hair Color
Clientele sky rocketed! I was receiving about 5 new
Hair Color Clients per WEEK! It was my Original Hair Coloring Foil
Work and continued excellent Hair Coloring results
that landed me in Elle Magazine. When the woman from Elle
Magazine called to invite me to be included as one of the "Top Ten Masters of Makeovers" - I happily accepted!
To share my success with other Hair Stylists, I
created the bilingual (English and Spanish) "Panels & Chunks" video/DVD and continued to document all of my successful actions so that others can have the same success in their own Hair Coloring Careers. |

|
|
STYLIST: DO YOU PROMOTE A CERTAIN HAIR
COLOR LINE?
|
SHARON SOVINSKI:
While I have a line of hair color
that I prefer to use at this time in the My Bella
Color Hair Coloring Studio, I made the decision when
I was making the "Panels & Chunks" video/DVD,
planning the educational Hair Color Seminars an online Hair Coloring Internet Marketing Concept that I did not
want to be attached as an Educator to any
particular Hair Color Manufacturer.
The reason for
this is that I present an education that any Professional Colorist can apply to their Hair Coloring Career while using ANY hair color line.
When I educate, I
educate so that the Hair Stylists and Hair Colorists are able to
successfully use any hair color line at any time!
I am selling HAIR COLOR KNOWLEDGE, not a hair
color line. But, yes, it is a goal of mine to
create my own hair color line one day. After I
reach my next set of goals, the time will be
nearer for me to have my own hair color
line. |
|
|

|
STYLIST: IF YOU WERE TO REPRESENT A HAIR
COLOR LINE WHAT LINE WOULD YOU CHOOSE?
 |
|
SHARON SOVINSKI:
Currently, I am using one that I
was originally trained to use. I've made a full
circle though - I started with this one color line
and then tried all of the latest lines and I made
my way back to it due to its true color mixing
and shine capabilities.
However, if I were to ever represent a
color line as an Educator, I would have either my
own Hair Color line created, or I would have to
have free-license as a Hair Color Artist to do
with that color whatever I wanted to do.
I break
the rules quite often when I mix. I do that to get
the results I want without having to do double and
sometimes triple color processes.
Hair Color is my
Paint. Hair is my canvas. Asking me what color
line I use is no different than asking a famous
artist what paint he uses to create his
masterpieces.
It is extremely rare that I do not mix several colors of hair color together to get ONE hair color result. Much like a painter... I create ART in hair through the ART OF COLORING HAIR.
And, I love it! Every ounce of it. |
